Location: Remote for a few hours a month February to June, full time on location from Mid June to Mid August.
In the Norwegian space industry, collaboration is the linchpin of innovation and success. Reflecting this ethos, Andøya Space Education, EIDEL & Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace are coming together for a student summer project that aims to harness the potential of satellite technology to enhance ocean utilization. Some of the students will be employed by Eidel, and some by Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, all working towards the same goal.
This project is designed for students who seek to apply their academic knowledge to real-world challenges, providing a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of space technology and marine sciences.
The first-year mission is to lay down the conceptual groundwork, identify potential payloads, and assess the most strategic mission options with a view towards improving how we know and use the ocean.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Perform stakeholder interviews to map out market needs.
- Engage in ideation and conceptualization sessions for the satellite mission.
- Research and evaluate potential payloads, considering their feasibility and mission alignment.
- Work in tandem with professionals across all three organizations for a comprehensive design approach.
- Perform trade-off analyses to recommend payload options.
- Contribute to preliminary design processes and documentation.
- Regularly update the project team and stakeholders on progress.
Desired Qualifications and Skills:
- Passion for space exploration, environmental stewardship, and practical technology applications.
- Enrollment in or recent graduation from a degree in Aerospace Engineering, Oceanography, Space Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Physics or related fields.
- Minimum 3 years relevant experience from work and/or studies.
- Creativity and initiative in contributing innovative solutions.
- Should be able to receive a Norwegian security clearance.
It is beneficial if you have:
- Interest in bridging users and stakeholders for environmental stewardship
- Technical skills, including familiarity with Python, STK or MATLAB.
- Hands-on experience with 3D printing, welding, metalwork, or related fabrication skills.
