AOS-D Contract signed

EIDEL, a Norwegian space technology company, is pleased to announce that it has signed a contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) to participate in the Norwegian Arctic Ocean Surveillance (AOS) project. This disruptive initiative aims to enhance maritime surveillance in the Norwegian maritime administration through real-time satellite-based surveillance in the Arctic region. In the development phase the project is followed up by the Norwegian Space Agency.

Key Details:

  • Completed contract: EIDEL is in process of completing its feasibility study for AOS-D with ESA.
  • Contract Signing: EIDEL has officially signed a contract with ESA to deliver a satellite as part of the AOS-D implementation project.
  • Objective: The AOS program seeks to build a national satellite infrastructure for ocean surveillance, focusing on the Arctic region.
  • Platform Delivery: EIDEL is in negotiations with The Danish company Space Inventor for delivery of the satellite platform for AOS-D.
  • National Interests: AOS will play a critical role in securing Norway’s national interests by monitoring ship traffic, detecting illegal fishing, and securing the arctic ocean.  
  • ESA Collaboration: The project is based on ESA’s GSTP framework and is divided into several phases. EIDEL’s feasibility study was the first step in this ambitious endeavour.
  • Space Norway Collaboration: EIDEL has engaged Space Norway as sub-contractor on the ESA GSTP Contract. Space Norway will contribute to the project with mission specific payloads, Concept of Operation, project- and competence support.
  • Timeline: The satellite is planned to be launched in 2027 from Andøya Spaceport.
